Rabbi Cantor Dr. Linda Bernstein (Rabbi Linda) bridges Jewish learning, pastoral care, and the power of music in Jewish life. See her website at rabbilindabernstein.com for more details.
She earned her Master of Jewish Studies in 2021 from the Academy for Jewish Religion California (AJRCA), specializing in Music in Jewish Life, and completed the AJRCA Rabbinical Program (2019–2024). In 2024, she was ordained as a Rabbi and Teacher and received her Master of Rabbinic Studies. She completed a year of Clinical Pastoral Education (2023). She was an Intern of the Cantors Assembly starting in 2019 and earned her Hazzan certificate and membership in the Cantors Assembly in 2023.
Rabbi Linda has served communities across the Bay Area through synagogue leadership, prayer, teaching, and compassionate pastoral presence. She was a Rabbinic Intern at Congregation Netivot Shalom in Berkeley and served as the Pastoral Care Intern at Rhoda Goldman Plaza in San Francisco. She has also served as a guest rabbi and cantor for congregations in the Bay Area. Rabbi Linda is a 50+ year member of Congregation Beth Sholom in San Francisco, and has held many lay leadership roles.
A thoughtful writer and creator, she has written for both professional and lay publications. Her Master Theses were on synagogue life during COVID and the changing face of Conservative Judaism. She is also the creator of Mitzvah Power Academy, a growing series of books, videos, and Jewish educational resources for children ages 5–10 (mitzvahpower.com), designed to inspire young learners through meaningful stories, values, and joyful engagement, which are produced by a subsidiary of her company, Jewish Kids Media (jewishkidsmedia.com)
Before entering the rabbinate, “Dr. Linda” built a distinguished career as a clinical pharmacist specializing in medical communications and media. She earned her Pharm.D. from the UCSF School of Pharmacy in 1977, completed residencies from 1977–1979, and has served as a Clinical Professor and volunteer faculty member at UCSF. She is President of Vita Media Corporation, a medical communications company founded in 1998. She is an award-winning producer, writer, and host of multimedia health and pharmacy educational programs and campaigns for professionals and consumers of all ages.
Today, Rabbi Linda brings that same creativity, warmth, and leadership to Jewish communal life to enrich the Jewish experience by providing innovative learning, engaging religious services infused with music for everyone, from preschoolers to seniors.
